Would you like to know one truth that, for many of us, has the power to change it all? It's not a religious truth or a complicated philosophical abstraction. In fact, it's just a single simple sentence:
Your grade point average has zero correlation with happiness.
Would it surprise you to know this finding comes from Harvard where over 80 percent (that's four-fifths!) of the student body reports struggling with "work debilitating depression"? And that the truth of our simple statement that good grades don't bring happiness isn't just true at Harvard, but across the board?
I write this here as but one illustration of how we so often pursue the wrong things. With the best of intentions, we who are parents can actually encougage our kids down paths that will prove detrimental to them. Kind of scary, isn't it?
In 2014, might we want to do anything different?
