In February of 2007, the Potomac River froze solid.
In late January of 2009, it froze again.
A couple days ago enough ice was forming that despite the heavy flow, I thought it would freeze again. Looking at the weather forecasts, I figured Friday morning would be the best chance for the most ice. So, with the temperature hovering right at 32 degrees, and with freezing rain coming down, I set out.
It was wet, with the rain freezing on the trees like glistening strings of pearls.
The trail itself was frozen solid.
But the river itself was not.
